چکیده

The Authors Reply: We agree with Finucane that it is important to monitor and treat hyponatremia after a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. He cites a study that showed fewer instances of hyponatremia among patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage who were treated conservatively than among those who were treated with clipping or coiling.1 The group treated conservatively, however, consisted mostly of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage in which an aneurysm could not be detected. The natural history of nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage usually differs from that of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Hyponatremia is infrequently the cause of significant impairment or death in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. For example, one recent multicenter review showed that hyponatremia had no bearing on the outcome 3 months after subarachnoid hemorrhage.2 Torres et al. share their algorithm for screening patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. Although the incidence of cerebral aneurysms in the population with this disease is generally thought to be higher than that in the population without this disease, estimates of the prevalence have varied considerably. On the basis of currently available data, the screening approach outlined by Torres and colleagues appears to be reasonable. Whiteley and Al-Shahi point out the importance of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Scale for subarachnoid hemorrhage. More 1.

Role of MicroRNAs in BCG Therapy by the Induction of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Bladder Cancer

The treatment of bladder cancer is usually performed by Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) instillation. BCG therapy is a common therapeutic method with fewer side effects compared with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc. BCG can also inhibit the progression and recurrence of bladder cancer by inducing apoptosis pathways, arrest cell cycle, autophagy, and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formatio...

Lactobacillus Acidophilus Cytotoxicity Effect and Apoptosis in Human Bladder Carcinoma Cells: An In Vitro Study

Introduction: Anticancer effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus, as a probiotic bacterium, have been indicated in several studies. There are common therapeutic options for bladder cancer treatment; however, their side effects and recurrence of disease are considerable. Therefore, complementary medication is essential and it must be safe and effective. In the present research, we assessed the anti...

Outcome after BCG treatment for urinary bladder cancer may be influenced by polymorphisms in the NOS2 and NOS3 genes☆

PURPOSE Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)-treatment is an established treatment for bladder cancer, but its mechanisms of action are not fully understood. High-risk non-muscle invasive bladder-cancer (NMIBC)-patients failing to respond to BCG-treatment have worse prognosis than those undergoing immediate radical cystectomy and identification of patients at risk for BCG-failure is of high priority....

Re: bacillus Calmette-guérin strain differences have an impact on clinical outcome in bladder cancer immunotherapy.

BACKGROUND Whether the commonly used bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) strains Connaught and Tice confer different treatment responses in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is unknown. OBJECTIVES To compare clinical efficacy, immunogenicity, and genetics of BCG Connaught and Tice. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS A prospective randomized single-institution trial with treatment of 142 ...

بررسی نتایج و عوارض ایمونوتراپی در تومورهای سطحی مثانه بوسیله BCG و انترفرون-آلفا

The treatment of choice for bladder tumors is TUR, but because of high incidence of recurrence in these tumors, various treatments are suggested. In one study, 32 patients involved with superficial T.C.C. of bladder selected and divided in two equal groups. In the first group, after T.U.R, 10 million IU of a alpha-interferon was injected into the bladder through a catheter and in the other grou...

Cutaneous granulomatous reaction post intravesical BCG installation: a case report

Intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) hasbecome an established adjuvant treatment for superficial bladdercarcinoma. This treatment is associated with a relatively high rateof side effects which are mostly reversible spontaneously or canbe treated symptomatically. Serious systemic side effects are lessfrequent. One of rare complications is gran...
